River Trips
Why Colorado Discover Ability?
Individualized Experience
We offer an individualized experience on the river. You will be engaged as much or as little as you like in running the trip. We provide big-oar boats, large 18-foot rafts, inflatable kayaks and paddle boats. We give kayaking lessons and encourage you to try them. While big oar boats are great for socializing, only the guide is active. Kayaks and paddle boats will keep you active and engaged.
Safe Wilderness Experience
We run each trip with a minimum of two guides, backup guides, and often a one-to-one ratio of staff to guests. We bring extra gear to extend the safety precautions beyond the expected standards. In addition to kayaks and paddle boats, we run 18-foot rafts on all our trips. This allows us to haul an enormous amount of gear and offer ample space and comfort to those who prefer to ride in the big boat.
Adapted Outdoors
No matter your ability, we'll adapt our crafts to fit you and to allow an intimate outdoor experience. We won't take you along just for a ride—it's your trip and you'll be engaged in all aspects. We also have specialized gear to make natural, undeveloped areas accessible to all.
Expertise and Experience
Our staff brings lots of experience and expertise in working with people with physical and intellectual disabilities. We can teach you a lot about your prosthetics, work with autistic kids, and we can even whine with you about the side effects of your HIV drug regiment. We don't focus on disabilities--just different ability levels.
Your Pace
We make your trip as relaxed or as intense as you wish. We can mix many wilderness activities into your river trip, such as swimming, hiking, fishing, games, whitewater lessons and more.
Good Food Makes It All Good
We feed you great food. You can always specify your preferred menu and we'll do our best to satisfy your taste buds. We bring along a fully equipped field kitchen to serve hot dinners and hot breakfasts.
Everyone Is Welcome
Our trips are open to everyone—people with disabilities, their families and friends. You can even bring your well-behaved dog. We supply life jackets for dogs and dog dishes as well.
Quality, Not Quantity
As a non-profit river outfitter, we are not geared toward high-volume river trips. We concentrate on your safety, trip quality and enjoyment.
Money Well Spent
We don't turn anyone away. If you can afford our normal trip price, your money will fund more trips for other people. If the price is too steep, we provide financial assistance to qualified individuals.
Compliant With State and Federal Laws
We operate our river program under a U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management Special Recreation Permit and hold Colorado and Utah River Outfitter Licenses.
